We didn't have a good experience with Dr. Dorrell, who told us to buy a pump
and supplement for our slightly jaundiced newborn. She was very cavalier
about the bottle, which I had misgivings about introducing so quickly. For
some reason my son did not take to the bottle, but he still managed to gain
4 oz in a day thanks to round the clock nursing. She was surprised that he
gained so much weight without the help of a bottle and said that we could
forget about pumping (after telling us the day before that a pump would cost
$200+, and that it wasn't covered by insurance because it wasn't medically
necessary). No doubt the hormones made me especially emotional, but I felt
like she was insensitive about the whole thing.

I stayed away from Dr. Holtzman based on comments posted on this listserv,
and we've been very happy with Dr. Priver, who is very low-key and relaxed.
However, we recently had to deal with a mysterious and persistent high
fever, and Dr. Priver was not available. Dr. Holtzmnn did not do the
examination, but she was the follow-up pediatrician (due to the holidays). I
was extremely impressed with how thorough she was over the following 3 days
about keeping track of his lab tests and contacting us. She was a bit
brusque when we missed a call the first time, which rubbed me the wrong way,
but she more than made up for it with her subsequent calls.
