Workshop: Difficult Conversations and Gendered Communication in the Work Pl=

Invited Speaker: Joanne Kamens, MASS AWIS Chapter President

Time: Wed., Nov. 14, 5:30 PM  - 7:00 PM

Location: Graduate Student Lounge

Dudley House--Harvard Yard

This talk is designed to give an introduction to managing difficult
discussions and how to negotiate successful collaboration when in
conflict.  The talk outlines some interesting hurdles for women and
communication in the work place and includes some interactive portions and
discussion.

After the talk, stay to meet and network with other graduate students and
members of the local chapter of the Association for Women in Science (AWIS).

Joanne Kamens completed her undergraduate work in Biology at the University
of Pennsylvania. She received her Ph.D. in Genetics from Harvard Medical
School's Division of Medical Sciences and began work at BASF Bioresearch
Corporation in 1992.  She is now a Group Leader in the Molecular and
Cellular Biology Department of Abbott Bioresearch Center in Worcester,
Massachusetts.  Over the years, her work at ABC has included projects in
many different areas of Immunology, Molecular Biology and Technology
Validation. Dr. Kamens is also involved in the Abbott Women in Action
Steering committee. She lives in Newton, Massachusetts with her husband, a
rocket scientist, and two children.
