[Parentsgroup-list] traveling with a baby

Safety advocates will tell you that you must make sure you have a seat to put
baby's car seat in, because in severe turbulence you may not be able to hold
onto her. Those "Baby B'air" lap harness things (see onestepahead.com) are
actually illegal and they may tell you to remove it before takeoff. (though I
did use one a couple of times)

I'd say to be prepared for dirty looks from other passengers when you board with
a baby. I actually had someone refuse to sit next to me one time. On the other
hand, I also had a flight attendent take him on another flight and "fly" Milo
all up and down the cabin when he could see both baby and I were about to lose
it, so it just depends.

I know someone was recently thrown off a Delta flight for nursing "in public,"
but most people now are not going to bug you about that. I did use a pacifier
and that helped a lot for takeoff & landing. Make sure you grab a couple of
pillows and blanket when you get on if you think you'll need them.

I never took a stroller with a kid that small--I always used a Baby Bjorn or
backpack. Hands free! and less stuff to drag around. (well, not with the car
seat though...sigh)
