The HSPH Asian Health Forum presents

Asia’s emerging role in global health

Dr. Peter WS Chang,

International Dean, Taipei Medical University, Taipei, Taiwan

Wednesday March 10 at 12:30 PM,

Kresge G-3 (Harvard Medical School )

A light lunch will be served.

Traditional donors such as the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and
Development (OECD) and other non-profit organizations have already
providedbillions of dollars of support to improve the health of low
and middle
income countries. With newly blooming economies, Taiwan, China and South
Korea have only begun to contribute to foreign aid and address global health
issues in Asia and Africa. This talk will address the following issues: What
strategies do these government funded organizations from Asia use to
optimize the public’s health in low resource settings? How do these
non-traditional donors compare with more traditional donors? Though this
talk will focus on Taiwanese donors, it will also further discuss
cooperation throughout Asia to address global health.

Dr. Chang is an alumni of HSPH (MPH, 1988 and ScD, 1992) and an expert in
global and environmental health. Previously he has served as Representative
for European Health Affairs, Ministry of Health, and Scientific Collaborator
to the UN and Switzerland and Director of the Bureau of International
Corporation in the Taiwanese Ministry of Health. He is currently the
International Dean of Taipei Medical University and is acting as the EU
Health National Contact Points - Taiwan coordinator.
