The Innovation group at Avon is made of Ph.D.'s and Masters from diverse areas of science.  Avon is engaged in developing new materials and technologies for the beauty industry, including Skin Care, Personal Care, Hair Care, and Color Cosmetics. Job Description 


Development Chemist - Innovation-SUF0005C 
Avon, the company for women, is a leading global beauty company, with over $10 billion in annual revenue. As the world's largest direct seller, Avon markets to women in more than 100 countries through over 5.5 million independent Avon Sales Representatives. Avon's product line includes beauty products, fashion jewelry and apparel, and features such well-recognized brand names as Avon Color, Anew, Skin-So-Soft, Advance Techniques, Avon Naturals and Mark. 
We are seeking a Development Chemist to join our Innovation group.  The successful candidate must work well with minimum supervision in the development of new and creative innovative color and skin care products in a timely manner.  Works well in a team environment as necessary to develop new formula prototypes and technologies in the areas of skin care and color products to support future innovation strategies.  Explores and pursues innovation, including meeting with key vendors to integrate into new products.  Experiments on the bench with raw materials, emulsification systems, processing techniques and formulations in traditional and/or non-conventional creative approaches.  Must be able to research and report on technical subjects.  Adept in the review of patents.  Must be able to manage multiple projects within R&D team matrix and be a diligent problem solver. 
Minimum of M.S. degree in Chemistry, Biochemistry, Pharmacy, Biology or equivalent science plus 3-5 years of experience in cosmetic formulation and product development with an emphasis in color and skin care products; or PhD with 0-1 year of experience.  Strong technical knowledge of chemistry, physics, biology, raw materials, emulsion technologies, and surfactant technologies.  Must have strong interpersonal and communication skills (oral and written) and work well in a team dynamic.  Must be flexible and use sound judgment in handling unanticipated situations.  Entrepreneurial attitude with the ability to conceptualize and apply innovative solutions.  Must be a self-starter with a high level of initiative.  Must be proficient with computers.  Good performance, attendance, and safety record in present position.
