[hcs-d] pdftex vs. pdflatex?

In spite of the way people usually talk, TeX and LaTeX are not the
same thing. LaTeX is actually a bunch of macros on top of TeX.

Most people probably want to ignore anything dealing with low-level
TeX, and just use the pdflatex program.
