(1) Office Hours Nov 22, 2004 - 8:00 PM
*******************

Office Hours will be held at the regular time of 8:00 to 10:00 PM. Drop by
for help with HCS accounts or lists.

*******************
(2) HCS Lists
*******************

HCS currently has a bunch of lists that no longer get any traffic except for
the occasional piece of spam. The only currently active lists are
hcs-announce and hcs-jobs.
We would like to revive hcs-discuss, which is an unmoderated list for any
general HCS discussion, but has not been used recently.
As for the other lists, such as hcs-pilot, hcs-fun, etc., we are thinking of
shutting them down. If you would like us to keep any of these lists, please
email prez at hcs to let us know.

(3) Projects
*******************

(A) Big Name Speakers
(B) Improving Mailman Interface
(C) Wikis
(D) Spam Bounces from FAS
(E) Sparc Test Cluster
(F) HCS Handbook
(G) RT

HCS is running several projects. If you'd like to help out with any of
them, please contact the person listed with the project. If you'd like to
start a new project, or have an idea for a project, you are encouraged to
present them during Office Hours, or you can email <prez at hcs>.

(A) Big Name Speakers
---------------------------------
HCS is trying to bring well known tech people to Harvard to talk to
undergrads and other members of the Harvard community. Currently, there are
talks going on to bring the founders of Google, Serge Brin and Larry Page.
For more details, contact Tim Huang <thwang at fas>.

(B) Improving Mailman Interface
---------------------------------
Currently, HCS is using a program called mailman to run all the mailing
lists that student groups have. HCS is working on a project to make it
easier to create and use mailing lists. Please contact Gregory Price
<gprice at hcs> for more details.

(C) Wikis
---------------------------------
HCS is now providing Wikis to student groups. There are however a few minor
details to work out. If you would like to help out, or learn more about
Wikis for your student group, please contact Matt Gline <gline at hcs>.

(D) Spam Bounces from FAS
---------------------------------
Over the summer, many people were taken off their mailing lists due to a
new FAS policy in dealing with spam. HCS has implemented a solution to
prevent these unsubscribes using procmail. The project has been completed
for current lists, but implemetation for new lists is still being worked
out. Please contact Matt Gline <gline at hcs> for details or if you would like
to help with the last stage of implementation.

(E) Sparc Test Cluster
---------------------------------
HCS has acquired a bunch of Sparc machines. These are being set up with
Linux and will be used as a group of test machines. HCS has just acquired
new DNS entries for these machines. Generally, work is being done on the
cluster during Office Hours each week, so please drop by to help out or
learn more.

(F) HCS Handbook (History)
---------------------------------
HCS has begun a project to gather HCS's history and have it all written down
in one place. If you'd like to help out with the research, or if you'd like
to contribute stories about HCS's past, please contact James Dowdell
<dowdell at hcs>.

(G) RT
---------------------------------
To improve Account Servies ability to respond to requests, HCS is working on
a project to install RT, an automated ticketing and service-tracking system.
For more details or to help out, contact Matt Fasman <mfasman at hcs>.
