Dear researchers,

There are a lot of ways to find gently used equipment on a campus the
size of Harvard. Finding or giving away working surplus equipment,
furniture, and books can reduce the environmental cost of production of
brand new materials and disposal of the old, and of course it saves

Here are 6 ways you can optimize your chances of taking advantage of
campus-wide sharing of equipment and supplies:

1) Harvard re-use list - www.green.harvard.edu/reuselist - a
Craigslist/Freecycle style website for the Harvard community, mainly
geared towards faculty, researchers, and staff

2) Crimson-list - www.crimsonlist.org <http://www.crimsonlist.org/>
- a Craigslist style website that is geared towards students in dorms
trying to sell books for courses and general dorm supplies

3) Your local Green Board - there is now a section on many of the
green boards with a pad of paper on which you can post a wanted or
available note.

4) Greener-benches listserv - if you are planning to acquire
anything that is likely to be sitting around unused in someone else's
lab or office (like old monitors, printers, pumps, balances, etc...),
feel free to email the list at: greener-benches at lists.hcs.harvard.edu

5) The loading dock at the end of Sherman Fairchild (the Headhouse)
- as long as you don't make a mess of the stuff you don't want, feel
free to peruse the materials outside that are bound for recycling and
surplus. Recycling picks the materials up every morning, so the
afternoon is probably the best time to check it out.

6) Thursday morning surplus distribution at 175 N. Harvard St. -
old Harvard furniture can be picked up for free at the Harvard Recycling
parking lot from 10am to 2pm on Thursdays. First come, first served, so
get there early!

Until next month!
