[Greener-benches] FW: ENERGY STAR for Lab Grade refrigerators

Dear all,

Exciting news! The EPA is developing an energy star rating system for
lab grade refrigerators and freezers, and they are soliciting help from
the scientific community in how they test these appliances for energy
performance, so that their ratings are the most indicative of usage
patterns in a lab setting.

If you are interested in providing input, you may wish to check out the
draft protocol for efficiency testing here and see if you have feedback:
www.energystar.gov/newspecs (click on "lab grade").

The conference call is this Wednesday, 2-4pm, and they technically had
an RSVP deadline, but they are eager to have more end user participants,
so I anticipate it wouldn't be too hard to join the call. More details
about how to sign up are below.

Discussion

Thanks Allen. It seems like we usually get 1-3 end users on the phone
but we are always interested in more end users participating in the
process.

Background information can be found here: www.energystar.gov/newspecs
(click on lab grade).

Thanks!
Becky

Dear Rebecca,

I will be on the Call. Do you expect many lab users to attend? Would
you like more? Do you have background info to bring them up to speed?

                Thank you,

                                Allen Doyle

Dear Laboratory Grade Refrigerator and Freezer Manufacturer or Other
Interested Party,

The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) would like to thank
everyone who provided comments on the Draft 1 Supplement to ANSI/ASHRAE
Standard 72-2005 for purposes of testing laboratory grade refrigerators
and freezers. While there is agreement among stakeholders across many
of the elements included in the proposed supplement, there are a few
items that require additional review and discussion. EPA would like to
schedule a stakeholder conference call within the next few weeks to work
toward resolution of the remaining concerns.

Interested parties are encouraged to send an email with their
availability for the weeks of July 27th and August 3rd to Rebecca Duff,
ICF International, at rduff at icfi.com and Christopher Kent, EPA, at
kent.christopher at epa.gov, no later than Friday, July 17.

A follow-up email will be distributed with the final date and time by
Tuesday, July 21. Prior to the conference call, stakeholders will be
provided with an agenda, call-in information, a revised version of the
Draft Supplement, and any additional supporting documentation.

Please contact Christopher Kent at (202) 343-9046 with any questions or
concerns.

Thank you.
